Why the Alzheimer’s/Dementia Family Fund was created:
This fund was inspired based on the journey our founder, Moe Lietz, went through with her mom and seeing the need for offering direction and some monetary help to families who find themselves in this journey, as well.
The journey ended in August 2021 when her, our founder’s mom’s over 10 year journey came to an end.
We keep working in her honor because it is what she would want and would do if she was still with us.
The Fund has been started because there are families struggling out there to get respite care/medical assistance and guidance on next steps for their loved ones when a diagnosis of one of the illnesses under the dementia umbrella is given.
These diseases are tough to handle in so many ways since there is not always understanding of what is happening when they start and the fact they are starting in people at a younger age.
Specific Ways we Help Families:
We Listen.
We give Support.
We help you realize You Are Not Alone in this journey.
Each loved one has a personality but there are common habits, signs and things to watch out for.
If you are confused in what paperwork or information you will need to best help your loved one and their current situation, we will go through a checklist of important papers which will need to be located ASAP and have the ability to get you to the right people who can answer the exact questions you have.
Let our hindsight and journey be foresight for the journey you will travel.
We assist families with mini grants for respite and in home care when a loved one gets a diagnosis of Dementia, Alzheimer’s, or Parkinson’s. Depending when the diagnosis is made it could be for respite care to come and let the caregiver be able to make appointments or visit a lawyer, financial planner, personal doctor’s visits, etc. If the diagnosis is made later on then the chance to find hospice or make other appropriate arrangements.
“Purple Page Talks” are videos which discuss topics relating to the Alzheimer’s and Dementia journey. The episodes provide personal stories and advice on how to navigate the many difficulties people may experience when their loved one is diagnosed and even how to prepare beforehand depending on the topic discussed. Most recent talks have been with a financial planner looking at all aspects of life to consider not just being in crisis mode.
We affectionately call these video’s #ReverseSexTalks as talking with your parents about final plans can be as uncomfortable as when they had the birds & bees talk with you as a kid.
